An Internet Scam That Sparked Hope  |  Ben Taylor

Later in the morning, we heard from Ben Taylor, founder of Pleasant Green. Ben works with a number of clients, helping them with digital and social media marketing. After stumbling across a Nigerian scam a couple of years back, Ben decided to go undercover see how the scam worked. Ben then decided he would teach these internet scammers a lesson by sending them on a wild goose chase after being "hired" to mail fake checks to people in the United States. We heard the rest of this exciting story, and just how sophisticated 21st century scams can be. In 2017, Ben started Pleasant Green, a mini investment group that invests in entrepreneurs in western Africa.

Silicon Prairie  |  Josh Robinson

Our afternoon keynote was presented by Josh Robinson, chief information officer at Sanford Health. Coined in response to the explosive growth of local tech-enabled industries, the moniker "Silicon Prairie" identifies the Midwest states creating leading and innovative business environments similar to those that drove the success of Silicon Valley over the last 30 years. Focusing on investing in their people and driving value across the enterprise, Josh's Sanford technology journey proved to be a road-map for South Dakota to stake its claim on the Silicon Prairie.
